Measuring change in the areas that matter most for continued long-term success will help improve our region’s economic competitiveness. This is second year of the effort.

Each item in the dashboard highlights one metric relating to the either the city of Abilene, the Abilene Metropolitan Area or Taylor County,
Click the item for information on the relevant region, the data source and the year it was collected, as well as for a full written summary of the data and a comparison with a selection of other regions in Texas.
CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS YEAR: If applicable, shows the change from previous year to most current data available.
PEER RANK: If applicable, shows a comparison of the local region to the other Texas cities, metropolitan statistical areas or counties included in the report.
PEER AVERAGE: If applicable, shows the average value of the metric as measured across the other Texas regions in the report.

Peer regions were selected based on demographic and economic characteristics, location, potential aspirational areas of improvement, and/or evidence of competition with the Abilene area for business or talent.
The following peer regions are included in the report for comparison to the city of Abilene, Abilene Metropolitan area and Taylor County, respectively:
Cities: Denton, Grand Prairie, Killeen, Lubbock, Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Waco and Wichita Falls.
Metropolitan areas: Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Killeen-Temple, Lubbock, Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Waco and Wichita Falls.
Counties: Denton, Dallas, Bell, Lubbock, Midland, Ector, Tom Green, McLennan and Wichita.
